Extended Spring Break Information

Dear Stedman Families,
If you have not read our school newsletter from yesterday, please catch up HERE. We will continue to post updates on our Facebook page and website as we can. Please read below thoroughly. We have a LOT of information here for everyone.
Yesterday you received communication from DPS regarding the decision to move to an extended spring break for all DPS schools. This decision was made on the advice of medical experts to ensure the health and well-being of all students, staff, and families. Here are the details along with additional information for our families:
  • DPS is implementing an EXTENDED SPRING BREAK and all DPS schools will be closed from 3/16-4/6 for students. Students are scheduled to return on 4/7/20.
  • The goal of this closure is to support the practice of social-distancing and mitigate the impact of COVID-19. As of today, there are still no DPS students/staff with confirmed cases.
  • An extended spring break means there will be no instruction or assignments.
  • All DPS sponsored activities, gatherings, meetings are canceled during this break. This includes the cancellation of all:
    • Enrichments
    • School-related meetings
    • Springboard Before/After Childcare
    • DISCOVERY LINK programming and camps
  • Our school building will be open from 8am-4pm on 3/16 & 3/17.  Please note that only the front office will be staffed and these are not student contact days. The purpose of this time is to provide families the chance to retrieve any items needed prior to 4/7. This includes medications, supplies, coats, backpacks, etc.
  • Things we don’t know yet:
    • CMAS: DPS is working with CDE to determine next steps. I will share information as it is received.
    • Make-Up Days: It is currently unknown how this will be handled. DPS and other school districts will be working with state leaders to devise a plan. I will share information as it is received.
  • There will be access to FREE breakfast and lunch during this time on break. More information will be sent home soon, but children ages 1-18 can pick up breakfast or lunch at one of the following locations from 3/16-4/6:
    • Southwest: Lincoln High School
    • Southeast: Place Bridge Academy & Joe Shoemaker
    • Northwest: North High School
    • Central: DCIS Baker
    • Northeast: Manual High School
    • Far Northeast: Montbello & Evie Dennis
  • Do you need additional support/resources over the break? Our PTA and community have access to the following:
    • Over-the-counter medications, supplies, food, etc.
    • Please text Ali at 303-242-6414 or email at alison_larson@dpsk12.org if you have specific needs. She will try to connect you with resources or services. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

    • We’ve read that Comcast is offering free broadband internet access to low-income families during this time. Click HERE for more information.
    • NOTE: We will have some extra bags of food available on Monday at Stedman. Please stop by to grab some food if you need it! We will be open 8am-4pm.
    • If you are available and interested in volunteering over the break should families need support, please sign up HERE.
  • Academic Resources: As a means to best serve students’ academic needs over the break and respond from the lens of equity:
    • We will be creating a weekly communication platform through Facebook to provide optional grade level tasks in math, literacy and SS/Science. We will update the platform every Monday morning with new resources, activities and tasks students can perform either independently or with the help of an adult or older sibling. Be sure to “like” and follow our Facebook Page.
    • In addition, we will have books and math tasks available to be picked up on Monday and Tuesday for families who do not have internet access and would like optional activities for their children over the break.

This is unchartered territory for all of us, but we will navigate it together. We will continue to share information and support you in feeling as informed as possible.  Please check your email and our Facebook page for updates regularly.
Due to the break, we are sending home Lights on After School applications today. They will be do immediately after the break (Tuesday, April 7th) so placements can be made for the start of clubs on April 13th. Estimados familias de Stedman,
Si no ha leido nuestro boletín que mandamos ayer, por favor, aquí está HERE. Vamos a seguir poniendo información en el sitio web y nuestra página “Facebook”(si no lo ha hecho todavía, “like” la página).
Por favor, lea lo siguiente con cuidado. Sigue MUCHA información para todos!
Ayer recibieron comunicación de DPS acerca de la decisión de extender las vacaciones de primavera para todas las escuelas en DPS. La decisión fue por los consejos de expertos médicos para asegurar la salud y el bienestar de todos los estudiantes, personal y familias. Aquí sigan las detalles:
  • DPS está implementando Vacaciones de primavera extendidas. LAs escuelas estarán cerradas del 16 de marzo al 6 de abril para los estudiantes. Los estudiantes regresarán el 7 de junio, 2020.
  • La meta de la clausura de las escuelas es para apoyar “la distancia social” y mitigar el impacto del COVID-19. Todavía no hay estudiantes con casos confirmados.
  • La escuela de Stedman estará abierta el lunes y martes (16/3 y 17/3 de la próxima semana) solamente para que las familias busquen cualquier materials, abrigos, mochilas, medicamento que necesitan durante ese tiempo. No son días de contacto para los niños.
  • Durante este tiempo no habrá ni instrucción ni tareas.
  • Todas las actividades de DPS, reuniones, estarán canceladas.
    • Incluye la cancelación de enriquicimientos
    • Reuniones de escuela
    • Springboard cuido de niños Antes/Después de la escuela
    • Programación y campamentos de primavera
  • Lo que NO sabemos todavia:
    • CMAS – DPS está trabajando con el departamento de educación de Colorado para determinar los siguientes pasos. Voy a compartir información cuando me llega.
    • No sabemos todavía que vamos a hacer para reemplazar estas dos semanas extras de vacaciones – los “Make-up Days”. Estaremos trabajando con los oficiales del estado para hacer un plan.
  • Habrá acceso al desayuno y almuerzo GRATIS durante estas próximas tres semanas (16/3 – 6/4). Les comunicaremos información en nuestra página “Facebook’. Los niños de 1-18 pueden buscar el desayuno y almuerzo en uno de los siguientes lugares:
    • Sudoeste: Lincoln High School
    • Sudeste: Place Bridge Academy y Joe Shoemaker
    • Noroeste: North High School
    • Central: DCIS Baker
    • Noreste: Manual High School
    • Noreste (lejos): Montbello y Evie Dennis
  • Necesita apoyo durante estas próximas semanas? Nuestra PTA y comunidad tiene acceso a y le pueden ayudar a conseguir lo siguiente:
    • Medicamentos de farmacia como Tylenol, comida, provisiones, etc…
    • Favor de mandar texto a Ali Larson (303-242-6414) o email a alison_larson@dpsk12.org si necesitan algo específico. Tratará de conectarle con recursos o servicios. ! No deje de contactarnos!
    • EL LUNES (8 am-4 pm): Tendremos bolsas de comida. Si lo necesitan, vengan a buscarlo.
    • Si está disponible y le interesta ayudar durante las próximas tres semanas por si las familias necesitan ayuda manda texto o email a Ali Larson.
  • Recursos académicos opcionales:
    • Para proveer recursos académicos y responder con equidad:
    • Les comunicaremos por medio de Facebook con tareas opcionales para cada grado en matemáticas, lectura, ciencias sociales y ciencias.
    • Pondremos nueva información cada lunes por la mañana con recursos y actividades para los estudiantes que pueden hacer independiente o con la ayuda de un adulto o niño mayor. Asegúrese de “like” nuestra página Facebook Page.
    • También tendremos libros y materiales gratis que pueden buscar el lunes y el martes, especialmente para los que no tienen acceso al internet y quieren actividades opcionales para los niños.

Es una situación excepcional para todos pero lo vamos a navigar juntos! Continuaremos a compartir información y apoyarles en sentirse lo más informados posible.
